PROJECTS
Spread A Smile
RCTSEC collaborated with OnePage and Aapka Sahara where we interacted with underprivileged children from various NGOs such as ‘Amcha Ghar’, ‘Don Bosco’, ‘Spandan’, ‘Urja’, ‘NSCCI’ and made them draw emojis, on the occasion of World Emoji Day, and write a small sweet message along with it as a fun activity. This event was conducted via Zoom Meetings. The team played a few ice breaker games with the children such as ‘What does your name mean?’ and also showed them a video from ‘The Emoji Movie’ to get their attention.
We later went and collected all the drawings from these children and distributed them at an
Old Age Home called Sahabhaav.
Quarter 1
Beach Clean-up
RCTSEC organized a beach clean up post the Ganpati Visarjan, at Juhu Beach on the 12th of September 2021. It was a GBM exclusive event, and a lot of enthusiastic GBMs came from all over Mumbai to clean the beach. The team managed to collect around 32 bags full of garbage. The beach was littered with plastic bags, microplastics, ceramic diyas and even idols of Lord Ganesh.
All Covid safety precautions were taken. Every attendee was double-masked, had to have taken their two doses and were advised to be appropriately clothed keeping in
mind the dengue outbreak.
After the successful clean-up, team Club Service had arranged for a few games for our GBMs such
as dodgeball and kabaddi.
E-quality Talks
On the occasion of Women’s Equality Day, The Inner Engineering Club (TIE) club, Girl Up Heron & The Fenominal Club (an RCTSEC Initiative) brought together a panel of women from different walks of life who spoke about their struggles, achievements, failures and how they evolved from those things. The panel discussion was followed by an insightful Q&A session.
The event led to a lot of healthy discourses amongst the participants. The panel discussion also showed how there is a difference in opinions and struggles which further motivated and inspired everyone. There was also a group formed after the zoom meet to discuss and put forward a variety of opinions.
Fantasy Premier League
For the second year in a row, RCTSEC organised ‘Fantasy Premier League’. In this event, participants had to ‘buy’ players who play in the English Premier League. RCTSEC has collaborated with RC of Andheri, RC of Wilson College, RC of Jai Hind College, RC of Medicrew, RC of Lala Lajpatrai College and RC of Bombay Hill South. Participants had a budget to choose a team consisting of 15 players.
Based on how these players perform in real life, they get points in FPL. This is a year-long event as it ends when the football season ends.
Based on the table, winners are announced weekly and then at the end of the season as well. This event
is sponsored by Frosted Flair.
The Quiz
RCTSEC conducted a fortnightly shot quiz based on various topics. There are 2 rounds in the quiz. The first one is a preliminary round on Google forms; four participants who score the highest points in the preliminary round are then elected for Round 2 of the quiz. The 2nd round of the quiz is recorded and then uploaded on our YouTube channel- RCTSEC. This quiz is hosted by our Social Media Director. The winners of the Quiz are given a book of their choice, courtesy of our sponsor - Book Melange.
Quarter 2
Open Mic
‘Open mic’ was a community service event that blended charity and fun. This was our first offline event which provided a platform for people to showcase their talents in front of their peers and have a great time with their friends. The event was filled with a lot of remarkable performances ranging from musicals, poetries and stand up sketches.
The event was not just a great place to show off talents but also meet all our peers after months and months of pandemic isolation.
All the proceeds from the event were then used to buy supplies for a leprosy NGO.
Pull Up Your Socks
‘Pull up your stocks’ was a professional development initiative which was a three-day online event preceded by a very insightful orientation about stocks and all the basics connected. The event comprised of 100+ participants who were investing in a virtual stock market platform of Dalal Street Journal. For three days they were all instructed to trade intraday and maximise their profits. At the end of the third day, the top three contestants were rewarded with a cash prize.
The event boasted a great reception from people as well as helped people understand the stock market better without having to risk their own money.
A charitable charm
‘Charitable charm’ as the name suggests was a community service event that relies on the magic of charity. The main aim of the project was to collect clothes, toys and books and donate them to various NGOs. The event had a great response with lots of people asking to have another event just like this in the future. With all the covid protocols followed and proper steps taken, the event was a success and definitely a day to remember for all.
Quarter 3
Charter Day
Charter day of The Rotaract Club of TSEC coincidentally falls on the same day as world love day, i.e. Valentine's Day. The main aim of this event was to spread love among the needy, underprivileged & the labour class. We decided to split the members into two batches so that we would be able to cover more area. Batch 1 included 10 members. This batch was headed towards Khar Railway Station (W). The team's intentions to spread food and awareness about Rotaract was rewarded with a bunch of happy smiles.
Batch 2 consisted of another 9 members. This batch was responsible for all the smiles on the faces of underprivileged children, labour class and the needy on the streets in and around our college, Thadomal Shahani Engineering College and Bandra. Another aim of this event was to spread word about RCTSEC and Rotaract in general. RCTSEC is a club that believes firmly in giving back to the community.
Futsal
Sports help in improving leadership skills, and help in team bonding. In accordance with that, RCTSEC conducted ‘FUTSAL’, a two day football tournament at Andheri Sports Complex. The first day is a league consisting of various groups with a certain number of teams. Top two teams qualify from each group to play the knockouts that are held on day 2 of FUTSAL.
Teams were briefed about the event. Colors were allotted for their jerseys. The organizing team made arrangements for a first aid kit in case of any emergencies, footballs and water dispensers. The aim of this project was to help students build team spirit and come out of their competitive nature and have fun.
Gaming DJango
Gaming DJango was our Club's attempt at attracting juniors to be a part of RCTSEC, to show them what type of events we do, and how we function as a club. Games such as BGMI, formula 1, FIFA, carrom and other carnival games were set up.
Gaming stalls as well as the food stalls were set up. Carnival games such as 7 up or 7 down, jenga and other games kept everyone entertained and active. We even set up a Wii Console which acted as a trip down memory lane for the event attendees. The highlight of the event though was definitely the DJ, it got everyone's feet moving.
Pull Up Your Socks 2.0
Team Professional Development came up with the Pull Up Your Stocks event to enlighten students, especially those of engineering background, on financial literacy and to also give them a simulated experience of stock trading. The four-day event was kept open for all to
Participate. We kickstarted the event with a webinar where all concepts regarding the stock market were explained, and the Union Budget for the financial year was introduced
To make the event more interesting, as part of a mini-game, participants were asked to predict the stock option which would give the highest returns for that day. The winners received coupons for the same. The last and final day of the event was high in stress, adrenaline and excitement. All the participants wanted to achieve the maximum profit before squaring off their profits at the end of the day. This was a successful event as everyone got first hand experience on investing in stocks.
Ujala
Project ‘Ujala’ was done with Green India Initiative Pvt. Ltd.. It aspires to change the world by being a reliable sustainability partner assuring valued efficient energy solutions delivered with passion. We gathered funds for the same. On reaching the school, we interacted with the students and teachers and donated solar lights there to help them have a brighter future. We also distributed various stationary items.
After this, we proceeded to climb on a hill and trekked for 4 kms to reach the very first hut to donate the portable light. While donating we talked to all the families and explained to them how the lights work and how to charge them. Providing these remote daily wagers and their families with portable lights had a simple aim, to provide them with a sense of safety and hope.
