PROJECTS
Reveal the Civil Unrest
A small act of kindness and contribution can save a life. ‘Reveal the Civil Unrest’ was a fundraiser event organised by team Community Service for a 2-year-old cancer patient. Vishawaraj Rajmane, required treatment for Pre B -
Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (blood cancer).
Several types of competitions like elocution, poem recitation, extempore and drawing were organised as a part of this event. It helped us boost everyone's spirits while bringing us one step closer to saving his life. We got an amazing response and we raised ₹5450 for Vishwaraj.
Quarter 1
Lets let gender fluidity
It takes a lot of courage to mature and become the person who you truly are. We see transgender people fighting for their rights on a daily basis solely because of gender norms and stereotypes in our society. ‘Let's Let Gender Fluidity’ was initiated by team Community Service so that we could take a small step towards understanding and creating awareness about the struggles faced by the transgender community.
This event was done in collaboration with Kinnar Maa Trust, an organization that works with trans people. We welcomed Komal Ji, a local activist from the trust who explained the issues faced by their community and later patiently answered our questions. It was a successful event attended by 38 members of our club.
20 Secs of Courage
In these tough and trying times, we saw the need to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for everyone to express their emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Hence, team HRD initiated ‘20 seconds of courage’, which aimed at providing mental relief to participants, helping them destress and make them feel heard and seen.
In addition to this, we present a relevant topic every month so that everyone can interact and share their thoughts and be inspired.
Ace the three
Team Professional Development took the initiative ‘Ace the Three’ to shed light on the misbeliefs associated with the professional world. Various myths about the office world were debunked, helping everyone see the truth hidden behind them.
This event gave the participants the opportunity to hone their professional skills such as teamwork, as well as their soft skills like creative thinking, emotional control, and cooperation.
Exposé
Covid-19 and the lockdown have had a significant impact on people's mental health, and initially, people were hesitant to admit the truth. Team Editorial initiated ‘Exposé’, which assisted participants in unburdening themselves from the overwhelming emotions that had been concentrated for a long time.
Through our themes of 'acceptance,' 'escape,' and 'silence,' participants were given the opportunity to come clean or 'expose' themselves.
Quarter 2
Project Pushpak
The aim of the project, ‘Project Pustak’ was to teach young kids from NGO between the age of 10 years to 16 years, the importance of reading books. All the 57 books(comics, story books, novels, etc) collected from donors and collaborating clubs were sent to one place by our taggers ready to be donated.
The children from NGO ‘Mother Foundation’, Malad (E) and mentally disabled people from ‘We Help Charitable Foundation’, Borivali (W) were taught the importance of healthy reading habits.
Stop The Spread
The pandemic is not over yet, and getting used to the new normal might be a little harsh for some people. So we conducted the project, ‘Stop the Spread’. It was about helping people stay safe by providing them with a Covid Kit that included: masks, sanitisers, soap and gloves.
This made a statement that we still have to follow all the government restrictions very strictly, and furthermore be more cautious. It also reflected how we respect and care about all the workers out there.
Show me what you got
Ever wondered what your favourite comfort track would look like if it was an actual person? Would they be dressed in all gold like ‘24K Magic’ by Bruno Mars or in red like ‘Bad Blood’ by Taylor Swift? Club service initiative, ‘Show me what you got’ gave the participants the chance to show how they would personify their favourite track!
The top five looks, which were selected upon popularity during the zoom session, were put up on our Instagram stories for a friendly competitive poll.
POV: YOU'RE THE VILLAIN
Our aim was to gather all the villain enthusiasts and have fun. Morally grey characters seem to have a greater impact on us now, than the main protagonist. The idea was to use escapism as a form of entertainment and live in whatever make-believe world we decided spontaneously.
We decided who would do what and the tasks were all completed on time. People joined and we played a game, Darth Vader themed. We asked everyone to volunteer and started by giving very fun situations. Everyone enjoyed the event a lot. We are grateful we could host such an event.
DANCE MOVEMENT THERAPY
DMT is a type of therapy that uses movement to help individuals achieve emotional, cognitive, physical, and social integration. It's founded on the idea that motion and emotion are interconnected. Dance therapy can be used for stress reduction and mood management.
We called a dance movement therapist, who conducted different activities with us and each activity had a hidden meaning behind it. A few activities that she conducted were playing with balloons but with only one specific body part. This increased our concentration level.
Quarter 3
Femme Up
The main idea behind this project was to make people aware about the importance of knowing the right information about PCOD/PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome/disease).
We wanted to solve the misconception regarding PCOS/PCOD and share tips on how one can lead a happy and healthy life with PCOS/PCOD.
Unfiltered with yours truly
We conducted an event named 'Unfiltered with Yours Truly' which was meant to motivate and encourage GBM members for Rotaract. To create a safe space for them to speak up and express their doubts and concerns.
We also aimed to bridge the gap between BOD and GMB as well as Core and GBM through this initiative.
Colours x Professions
The main idea behind this event was for the participants to see their dream profession as colourful and beautiful. We circulated a google form wherein we asked the participants to share their dream profession and any colour that they thought symbolised their dream profession and why?
We asked them a few more questions on how they see the positive and negative aspects of their colour related to profession and how the colour's qualities helped them.
Rooting for the Roots
We organised a series of 4 workshops under our event ‘Rooting for the Roots' where we aimed at promoting our roots i.e students of Sophia College who are successful small business owners.
Many of our college students discovered their hidden potential during lockdown and are now successfully running their small businesses. With this event, they got recognition among their peers and a greater exposure for their business.
Happy New Air
The community service avenue of the Rotaract club of Sophia College commenced with ‘Happy new Air’, a tree plantation initiative.
The aim of the program was to plant a total of 150 saplings on the college campus, gardens and nearby local areas.
