Let’s Crack the Interview

‘Let’s Crack the Interview’ was an initiative by the Professional Development avenue of the Rotaract Club of Jai Hind College to help students ace all interviews, may it be for an internship or a job. This session was facilitated by Mr. Craig Travasso, a voice artist, TedX speaker, communication coach and a consultant. The session gave an idea about how to prepare for an interview, what an ideal CV looks like and about an interviewer's favourite questions. The attendees were also taught the way of replying to each question and with the best words possible, along with appropriate voice modulation. Light was also thrown on the online platform of interviews and

how one can crack them while sitting at home!

Onground participants followed Covid protocols to donate the sanitary pads to the underprivileged women who either can’t afford one or lack the opportunity to use one. ‘I am for HER’, the title itself means, that we will support all women while also contributing a small part towards normalizing the menstrual cycle.

Cross Connection

Jon Bon Jovi said, “No man is an island.” Humans are social animals and require interaction in order to survive. During the pandemic,  making friends has been a tough task. The Rotaract Club of Jai Hind College organised

‘Cross Connection’, an International Service initiative to celebrate Friendship Day. People were asked to fill out a google form, wherein they had to  mention their likes and dislikes. Depending on the data available, people were divided into pairs. We organised a few games for them to play, creating  a perfect opportunity to make new friendships. The games included several rounds, where participants collectively came up with creative ideas. The event helped over hundreds to connect and bond with new people and make memories.

Blessings

Kind, loving, empathetic, generous, nurturing, a blessing; daughters are truly god sent and gifted to us by the almighty. To celebrate such wonderful presence of a girl child in our lives, the International Service Avenue of The Rotaract Club of Jai Hind College initiated an event called 'A Blessing' wherein, parents of all the girls of our team were contacted and asked to send a message for their daughters in either a video or text form.

The videos were then attached as a common wish from the club and sent to the girls on 11th October 2021. Their reactions were precious just like their presence in our lives. The importance and value they add to the lives of people around them shall be celebrated everyday by gestures like these.

The RCJC Show

‘The RCJC Show’ is a year long project by the Partners-In-Service avenue of the Rotaract Club of Jai Hind College. For the 4th episode, the Zonal Rotaract Representatives of zone 1A, Rtr. Punit Chauhan & Rtr. Rutuja Katkar were invited. This episode was divided into two rounds, question answer and surprise Diwali Dhamaka.

The first round consisted of questions regarding their life experiences, Rotaract journey, career etc and the second round was on a lighter note with questions revolving around Diwali and how they celebrate it. The episode was then given finishing touches and uploaded on RC Jai Hind’s YouTube channel. The main aim of this initiative is to make the voice of eminent personalities reach as many Rotaractors and people as possible.

#artforcause

#artforcause’ is a monthly community service fundraiser initiative in which we promote a small business or artist and sell their products or services. Half of the sale amount goes to raise funds in order to help the community. This project is our attempt to help the community by supporting small businesses and aspiring artists. The facilitators, as a part of this initiative, also contribute to the betterment of society. Through this the club not only promotes small businesses and helps them with sales but also contributes to the society by throwing light and focusing on an important cause.

Silent Saturdays

‘Silent Saturdays’ is a flagship event that has been running for the past 12 years at our club. It's a month-long community service project in which we aim to improve society by tackling four causes - Health, Hunger, Education and Safety. Each week in November, we focused on one of the four causes and helped the society through daily donation drives of various items related to it. This project was our club's attempt to give back to the community by utilizing our privileges to assist the underprivileged. Following the daily donation drives was a visit to the 'Life Foundation NGO,' every Saturday, where we spent time with the kids, taught them about the causes through fun games, provided them with a one-time meal, and ended the day with a Mega Donation.

On Sundays, we visited 'Kartavya Charitable Trust' and provided a one-time meal to the children there. Like every other year, we also did a 'Highlight' for Silent Saturdays 2021. A Highlight is a significant contribution to society from our end, in addition to the daily donation drives and the Saturday mega donations. This year as the Highlight, we donated various medical equipments such as wheelchairs, airbeds, nebulizers, diapers, and so on to Rupvan Foundation, an Old Age Home in Panvel, who were in dire need of these supplies to make the place a better place to live for the senior citizens who reside there. Throughout the event, there was active participation from the organizing committee members in donation drives as well as for the visits to NGOs on all Saturdays and Sundays. And for the Highlight, led us the Team of Silent Saturdays 2021 to impact over 2100 lives in the course of one month.

Word War I

Rotaract Club of Jai Hind College's flagship event ‘Word War I’ was held on 13th February. The event was conducted on a pan-India scale this year. It was an inter-school competition that gave children the chance to show off their skills. This competition between schools focused on literary art, fine art, general knowledge, and a few current events, with oratory skills, vocabulary skills, writing skills, and inventiveness being examined. The club decided to go with PAN India because it was online at the time due to the covid crisis.

The competition was divided into three parts, in the first round i.e 'Lit it Up' , literary art event wherein participants had to compose poems and deliver extempore. The fine art event 'Skill it Up' was meant to test creativity and the pictures presented were based on topics 'Nature with Geometric Art' and 'Getaway'. The 'Brain Drain' which is the grand quiz round was based on every aspect of general knowledge. The final winners as well as all the other winners were announced for each respective round.

Messenger

Legacy event called ‘Messenger’ was organized by the community service avenue. The purpose of this event is to pay respect to the city's police officers. The aim of organizing such a magnificent event 'Messenger' was to appreciate our real heroes who have always protected us no matter what the situation.

The concept behind the event messenger was to bring a smile to the face of our beloved police officers by a thoughtful but heartfelt gesture. A banner containing all the messages expressing gratitude towards the police officer was given as a gesture to show how valuable and important they are in everyone's life. In order to appreciate the police officers for their un-applauded deeds and to encourage them and others was the main motive to work on.

Hot Seat

In collaboration with Paws Hunger NGO, 'Hot Seat' is a fundraiser for animal welfare that takes the guise of a fun quiz challenge. The major goal was not only to stage a mock-up of the popular show Kaun Banega Crorepati but also to raise funds and provide dogs with reflective collars to safeguard them from road accidents. In this way we could assist animals who are unable to ask for help but require it.

Participants in this initiative had the opportunity to help the team in raising funds by participating in a fun and engaging quiz competition that tested their general knowledge. The winners were provided with E-certificates. The event was a great success, and after the completion of the event the funds collected were transferred to the Paws Hunger NGO.

Brooms Up

As this project has been executed since the last 5 years, the aim was to continue the legacy of the project between the Rotaract Club of Lala Lajpatrai College and the Rotaract Club of Jai Hind College. The motive was to also have a friendly yet competitive match of the fun games between the two clubs. And for members of both the clubs to create a bond and maintain good relations with each other.

The project was also executed to analyze the personal strengths and weaknesses of the members and to test their leadership, coordination and judgement skills. The project had a huge impact as all participants got a chance to experience the twisted infamous game of 'Quidditch'. The project brought out competitiveness amongst all with an aim to win the match against one another.

Cheekh

Woman trafficking is a serious issue, even in modern times. A group of Rotaractors had taken it upon themselves to spread awareness about this pressing issue by hosting the event “CHEEKH” and putting on a show at various locations all over Mumbai (CST Station, Andheri Station, R-city Mall, Inorbit Mall, etc) for eight days straight, from the 1st of March to the 8th. Using dance as their main mode of expression, the performers showcased three simple yet heavy scenarios which take place more commonly than one would expect.

To target their digital audience, team Cheekh creatively designed a photo shoot which not only portrayed the emotional state of a woman but also the crime that led to it. It was well received by the audience and every photo received hundreds of likes and comments of appreciation. Apart from digital validation, Team Cheekh was also commemorated in VN Desai Hospital with a trophy that was presented to them as a token of appreciation for their work.
